New projects and enhanced roles for Glasgow cartoonist Terry Anderson this autumn.
I spent a good portion of the summer doing art activities with PEEK Project, a fantastic children’s charity working in Glasgow’s north and east. They have a big fundraiser coming up as they celebrate their 18th birthday, please consider supporting them.
I’ll continue in this vein through the coming three months as Theatre Nemo send me to schools in Renfrewshire to create some comics with young people, all part of the Paisley 2021 endowment. Most pleasingly for me this will entail retuning to my old high school. Should be fun.
I have a number of caricatures in the Not The National Portrait Gallery exhibition of work by Professional Cartoonists’ Organisation members, already underway in London. The PCO are on a roll lately, not least of which due to the tireless Glenn Marshall. I’m grateful to the selection jury for including a good handful of my pieces.
Since 2015 I’ve been on the board and served as Northern Europe representative for Cartoonists Rights Network International, the campaigning organisation for cartoonists subjected to danger, threats or censorship. From this autumn I’ll be taking on Deputy Executive Directorship of the organisation. I look forward to working more closely with Dr Robert Russell and our network of cartoonists around the world.
First stop will be UNESCO where I contributed to an exhibit organised by Studio Irresistible last year. Together with the staff at the Centre Permanent de la Caricature, du Dessin de Presse et d’Humour SI are mounting a global forum on the role of cartooning in society and addressing the UN’s global sustainable development goals. I was honoured to be asked to join the planning committee for this event and will be delighted to help welcome delegates from over twenty different counties, including cartoonists from CRNI’s client list and counterparts from partner organisations. The États Généraux du Dessin de Presse tales place in October and I'll be at the 37th annual cartoon Salon in Saint-Just-le-Martel thereafter to present some early findings.
